Sarah's Blog about Sex Education!!

I thought this was a good student video watch because this is a subject area that doesn't get the time that it should in the classroom. Sarah made an awesome video about how sex education used to just be about making babies and now she believes that schools should go into more detail about STDs and other areas of sex education that get left out of the education our students get. Here's the truth, I understand that sex has been a taboo subject since probably the beginning of time but as adults we have to understand that teens ARE having sex and that they are getting into situations after having sex that they shouldn't be because our schools and parents aren't telling them about birth control and contraception. I love that she used her own drawings in the video to show what she was talking about. It makes her very easy to relate to. Here is the video so that you can watch it and a link to the website:

Blogging Buddy

Here is the blog that I chose to write on in New Zealand.

to get to the blog I specifically picked you go to this website and then choose the wocket spot blog. It should be like the third one from the top.

Luis

I love Luis' story because I am sort of going through the same thing with my mom right now. My mom doesn't know very much about technology but she realizes that our world is becoming more of a technology world so she understands that she needs to understand how to do things with technology. I like how he is showing his whole family how to use different types of technology so that they can stay connected with their family. I like the 4-H tech wizards program that he does because it helps to teach them about teamwork and it seems like this program has a lot of components to it that will help the students to improve their technology skills. I really like learning about these kids because they seem to wake up and do a lot of the things like I do and I think that shows just how dependent on technology we are so we should try to become so familiar with it so that we can do things in our world today.

Nafiza: Just an oridnary Techie!!!

I really like that Nafiza is just like the rest of the kids from our generation. I like that she checks facebook about as much as I do. I love that she incorporates technology into everything that she is doing in her life. She has a 2nd life and she made her avitar completely different from what she really looks like. I like that she is helping other people use 2nd life and that is helping them learn more about technology. I like that she learns about different issues through her gaming and through second life. Here is the link to the video that I am talking about. Everyone should watch it to see how we can incorporate technology into our everyday lives.

Blogging Buddies in the Classroom??

Blogging Buddies in the Classroom??

I really liked this video a lot because I really like seeing new ways how technology can be helpful when you are teaching a lesson. The most significant thing that I took away from this video is that blogging can be used in the classroom as a tool to help with reading and writing. I think that students would find this as a really cool and fun way to learn about reading and writing. Both sets of students would be very helpful to each other because they would be correcting the things that the students were writing wrong that would help their reading and writing skills.
I know for me when I was in elementary school, I got very excited about doing interactive computer activities. I think students today still learn better from these activities and they can also have fun while learning.

I just found a blog from some students in New Zeland and they were building a medieval catapult for their history class. So jealous that I didn't get to do that when I was in school that I left them a comment.
I am really jealous that we didn't get to do anything that cool when I was in school. Hopefully you found it fun, as well as, interesting.

Video on Cameron

Ok... first of all can I just say that this kid is a genius when it comes to technology!! I am really jealous of him. He is so driven to make sure he has learned everything about technology and he want to continue to learn more things about it. If we had more children who were as driven then him I think our world might be different. I really like that the people filming him focused on how using and understanding technology can help you with problem solving and how it can help you to become a more creative person. I also really like how Cameron is able to help teach his teachers things that they didn't know about technology. He focuses on how technology helps him to learn because he can visualize the concepts he is trying to learn. I also like that he enlightens his teachers so that they can use the things he has taught them to help the other students learn easier. I am a visual learner like Cameron so I think the fact that he uses technology to help him learn is really cool. I think that I would have been a better student when I was younger if I could have had exposure to the kinds of things they have now. I hope I can be as creative as him when become a teacher because I don't want my class to be a boring place and I want to keep the students up with the technology because I think that is important. This video showed me many ways that I can incorporate technology into my teaching like using powerpoint, and making videos that can help the student interact and learn at the same time. I think all teachers should watch this video to see the endless options they have to making their classroom not boring and making it a place where kids can have fun and interact with each other. Here is the video so you can watch it if you want.

Introduction Blog Post

Hey everyone!!! My name is Sarah Ransomand this is my first blog post ever. I am from Edmond, Oklahoma and have lived here for 21 years. I have been in college for 4 years and there seems to be no end in sight. I attended the University of Oklahoma for my first 3 of college but I transferred to UCO because OU's education program is a joke to me. UCO has a great one though so I am glad to get to be a part of it. I currently live in Edmond but I really miss Norman. I hope to graduate in about 2 years and I can't wait to start teaching. I really want to teach 3rd grade but I think teaching any grade would be a really fun and exciting opportunity that will make me very happy. I really want to be a teacher because I feel that teaching is a way that I can feel like I have helped change the lives of children by helping them to learn about the world around them. Thanks for listening to my rant.

SYONARA,
Sarah Ransom
